The majority of underground subway stations are below the water table, they rely on pumps running 24/7 to keep the system dry, but the pumps send the water into the sewer or storm drain system. That much water in so short a time overwhelmed everything.

@marilougo6084 the city is not working on a plan to evacuate trains at the next station if rainfall gets extremely heavy. And I expect every New Yorker to complain about it, “this isn’t my stop!”

@marilougo6084 we can predict hurricanes, but flash floods aren’t as predictable, The flood watch went up before the storm hit, but the flood warning box went up around the city during the storm. My phone didn’t get an alert until it was already coming down hard and the streets were becoming rivers.
