  1. They actually did, Taiwan was the “China” seat at the UN for a long while, but then Beijing complained and “The China Question” led to Taipei being kicked out and Beijing moving in. They’ve blocked every attempt at letting Taiwan enter the UN ever since.

  2. To cow-tow to China. USA should take the lead and recognize Taiwan, the rest of the world would follow and China would have to sit there and fume.
