  1. The City of New Orleans is the exception because the freight lines are on parallel tracks for a good distance, so they never get in the way of the Amtrak trains. The Sunset Limited used to start in Florida, but damage from a hurricane was never properly repaired by the freight company (not fixed up to the minimum standards Amtrak needs for safe operations) that owns the tracks, and they claim there’s no room in their schedule to add in Amtrak trains anyway. Locals that WANT Amtrak to return have filmed just how little rail traffic actually runs.
