  2. Many brands of bottled water, are just filtered local tap water. (Dasani, Aquafina are some examples). Some brands do have their own mineral spring sources though (Poland Spring, Fiji, Perrier, San Pellegríno. The last two are naturally carbonated.)

  4. Fun fact: cockpit windows are actually laminated and there is more than one layer of windows, so the while outside layer was smashed, the cockpit was not breached. Also the nose of the plane is a radome, it’s made out of a material that lets radar pass through.

  27. Yep, for some reason the IRS sees this forgiven debt as “income” even though that money is long gone. Even if you somehow qualify for student loan debt cancellation (example: for severe disability), the IRS will ignore it, but your state government may still call it “income”.

  28. “uhh this is your Captain speaking, we can just buff that out.” It should be noted, there are Ground Controllers that deal with taxiing planes, Departure Controllers that take over when the plane is in the line for takeoff, or at the threshold of the runway (it’s right before the plane makes that last turn onto the runaway.) Then the plane is handed over to a Regional Center Controller (for JFK it’s out on Long Island) then they move from there to the next one (towards Europe it’s Boston, Moncton, and Gander I believe) crossing the Atlantic they move out of radio range until a Center in Europe picks them up, so there’s lanes (like on a highway) to maintain proper safe distance between other aircraft. It’s not an easy job, at any level. (Oh, and it works in reverse for arriving planes, but they go from Regional, to an Approach Controller, who gets them lined up, and clears them for landing, then it’s back to the ground controller who tells the plane how to navigate back to the gate without messing up departing aircraft).

  32. Extra hour of hot sun in August evenings means an extra hour of running the AC on high… the only winner will be the electric companies. Standard time makes more sense since our circadian rhythm is tuned to high noon… in DST that hits at 1pm and throws us off, also we lose early morning sun in the winter, so we wake up in the dark and our bodies don’t get that “sun is up, time to wake” cue, further throwing us off.

  46. I avoided student loans, got grants and scholarships and by the end was actually being paid $750 per semester to finish my Bachelors… unfortunately my current income (as a paralegal) is no where near 6 figures… so by being financially responsible I got punished?
