  1. Yep, for some reason the IRS sees this forgiven debt as “income” even though that money is long gone. Even if you somehow qualify for student loan debt cancellation (example: for severe disability), the IRS will ignore it, but your state government may still call it “income”.

  2. I avoided student loans, got grants and scholarships and by the end was actually being paid $750 per semester to finish my Bachelors… unfortunately my current income (as a paralegal) is no where near 6 figures… so by being financially responsible I got punished?
