  11. He looks like a teddy bear! My MIL has a Cockapoo (awful name), and he is the dumbest dog Iā€™ve ever known. Heā€™s not his fault, he was just badly bred. (Actually he was my SILā€™s dog, but she left him with her mom when she moved to Austin.)

  21. This breed requires membership in a Costco or similar shoppers club that sells food in bulk. Just pick up as much dog food as your car can carry before the suspension collapses and that should last you a week.

  38. Actually saw a Shiba Inu wearing a Service Dog vest on the subway today. Not sure if it was a guide dog, but definitely knew which stop was the destination.

So sad all the issues show breeding has done to a lot of dog breeds, I remember seeing what the English bulldog used to look like compared to now (taller, no smooshed face), and it makes zero sense to me to so drastically alter an animal that much. (The same can be said for a few cat breeds, especially those with shortened faces.)

  49. Growing up there was Max the short beagle on our street. Max was quite chunky (looked like a rolled up rug with legs and a head). He was also quite vocal, screaming an ā€œarrrooff!ā€ (Not quite a bark, not quite a howl) any other dog or stray cat on the block to the point that his front paws BOUNCED off of the sidewalk like one of those cars in a low rider contest. He kept doing this even when he was probably way too old to exert himself like that. Beagles are essentially ā€œnoses with legsā€, and I think it was less overfeeding and more him grazing any food he could access as much as possible.
