  1. The idea that Rome invented Jesus, but then persecuted Christians afterward could be boiled down to the change in an Emperor or a dynasty. They could have decided, “nah, this is not what Rome needs” and it wasn’t until Constantine that this flipped back to being Rome’s religion. (Even Emperor to Emperor this changed, Antoninus Pius stopped persecution, only for the next emperor, Marcus Aurelius, to blame them for a plague and start the persecution up again.)
