Dis-honorable mention: R. Budd Dwyer, as Pennsylvania state treasurer he was convicted of 11 counts of conspiracy, mail fraud, perjury and interstate transportation in aid of racketeering, and faced a sentence of up to 55 years in Federal prison. Dwyer held a press conference claiming innocence. The press believed he would be resigning from office, however, he then pulled out a revolver and killed himself on live television. (This moment was the inspiration for Hey Man Nice Shot by Filter.)
