Henry Rollins has a comedy routine about doing a show on the beach in Santos, Brazil. First gig in South America and Rollins Band was the heaviest band in the line up and he wanted them to blow the crowd away. First song, he jumps on stage, pull “rock power” mode, his head went down, his knee went up…. And he knocked himself out in front of everyone. He got up bleeding from his forehead, the wound was deep enough that he could feel his skull… now he was out of it from getting knocked out, so after realizing no one was attacking him, and feeling his skull, he decided, “That’s so cool!” He bled the entire set, all over the band’s gear, and the crowd was like, “okay, you came in, knocked yourself out and bled all over the stage the entire time… yeah… who’s on next?” Just an epic fail.
Zappa was left with one leg shorter than the other from the surgery to fix the damage. He sings about it in “Dancin’ Fool”.
Keith Moon was known for putting firecrackers in his kick drum, but for the Smothers Brother’s show he used way too much. I think Roger Daltrey also ended up with impaired hearing, but Pete was in the firing line.
