  1. Montrux Casino, during a Frank Zappa show a fan fired a flare gun up into the ceiling. The resulting fire destroyed the entire casino and hotel. Surprisingly no one there died as people remained calm once Frank realized the place was on fire and warned everyone (it’s even on his live album Swiss Cheese/Fire). Members of the bands’ backstage crew pulled people out of harms way through the backstage exits as well. Zappa and Deep Purple did lose all of their equipment, and yes, this is where “Smoke on the Water” came from. Ironically enough, Zappa’s next show saw a crazed fan throw him off the stage into a deep orchestra pit, resulting in severe injuries.
