I believe either Erick the Red or his Leif Ericsson were “outlaws” when they journeyed across the Atlantic, Leif eventually finding North America (500 years before Columbus... it’s just that the Vikings weren’t so happy to share this news with the rest of Europe.)

@DarDarBinks1986 Vikings didn’t have the logistic capacity to maintain colonies past Iceland, their two villages on Greenland failed (quite horribly: read Jared Diamond’s book”Collapse”) because they came in a warmer year and didn’t realize just how cold it could get until they were starving and desperate over a very long winter.
