Honestly, this would have been less of an issue if we kept the 60 vote rule in place for SCOTUS picks. When you only need to pick someone that will be popular with whichever party is controlling the Senate, the court becomes so much more partisan. Especially when you had the last President get 3 picks in 4 years!

@SomeUniqueHandle in fact citizenship is only granted after birth. It also seems to be that being born on “American soil” includes if your mother is an American citizen (this allowed Mitt Romney’s father George to run for President, even though he was born in Mexico. Funny that all the “birthers” ignored that Obama’s mother was an American, so his possibly being born elsewhere (instead of Hawaii) was not a bar to the Presidency.)

I believe the Pentagon said that services will remain available to women in the service, or family members of those serving as it was prior to this court ruling.

@clayton97330 I believe that’s part of getting your baby travel documents anyway. But foreign children both here get U.S. citizenship. Uk PM Boris Johnson was born in NYC. He had to settle with the IRS, and then relinquish his U.S. citizenship when he was mayor of London.

@sabeoth4294 Reid did it for federal judges, McConnell expanded it to the SCOTUS. Either way it was a huge mistake, and probably a warning for those open to killing the filibuster.

@sabeoth4294 polls seems to say one or both will, but polls have been wrong before. I think we should wait and see how the election goes before we hand over the keys to McConnell or McCarthy (if he comes back, for all we know he could have worn out his welcome with his constituents (it is California after all).

@cooldudecs new bill would force Justices to go to a “senior” position after 18 years, they’d still be at the court, keep their offices, but only as advisers to the 9 younger justices. Out of deference for the current Court the replacement for the longest sitting judges would be scheduled for the 1st and 3rd year of the Presidential term starting in 2024.

How? We elected a celebrity with ZERO political experience to the highest office in the land in 2016, and he was manipulated into installing Federalist Society favorites on the SCOTUS 3 times thanks to Mitch McConnell’s desperate ploy to make the court a political wing of his party, that’s how! No more celebrity Presidents! Edit: Also, dropping the 60 vote requirement for court picks made it much easier to pick someone less palatable to the minority party in the Senate.

@terrathunderstorms3701 as opposed to certain Christians looking to impose their take on Sharia Law on everyone? Here’s a religious conundrum: we were granted Free Will by our creator… then why is pretty much everything under the sun considered SINS? You can’t give me free reign to live, but then set up a long course of trip wires and land mines that set me up to fail and be condemned to so post-life eternal suffering!
