There was nothing weird about it in my opinion. It was a good speech. Zelinksi was invited as a show of unity, not the latter. I don't know why you think that they would make him do that out of narcissism. He wanted to thank America because we've single handedly been keeping the majority of their country out of Russian hands while the selfish EU continues to fund putins war by purchasing Russian oil in Roubles, otherwise the sanctions would have worked.
