  1. Bent shafts were often caused by a dropped screw from changing points. Those distributors were open through to the bottom and screws disappeared into the dark.

  2. I had a Rambler with this same engine just a little less displacement. It would start easily enough but as soon as I stepped on the gas it would die. After much hair pulling I pulled the distributor and there was too much endplay. As soon as the engine sped up the shift would move up and change the timing.
