@dunravin In 2014 there was a coup. Soon after, there was a massacre in Odessa (dozens of people were burned alive). Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed. A civil war broke out due to the rise in ethnic tensions. For 8 years the Ukrainian military was indiscriminately shelling civilians living in Donbas.

@dunravin Russia's national security was compromised once nato began to expand eastwards. Russia clearly stated that Ukraine joining nato was a red line (November 2021) and unfortunately this concern was never taken seriously. The Russians openly stated: if nothing changes, we will be forced to act in order to defend our national security. Enhancing the national security of one country at the expense of another is unacceptable. The Russians have legitimate security concerns.

@dunravin I have done a lot of research and it took me a long time to write this comment. I have stated a lot of facts and I have given my honest opinion. I have provided a brief summary of events that took place. In order to explain this whole situation in great detail, a book would need to be written. Hopefully someone will write an UNBIASED book, stating facts and allowing the readers to form their own judgments. Everything I said can be fact checked and verified.

@blengi During WW2, the US sat safely across the ocean and it's industrial base was untouched. They could produce weapons without being hit by the Germans. Every industrial country, except the US, came out of the war with its resources, agriculture, and manufacturing largely destroyed. The US was lucky because of its geographical location. After the war the US became an empire because of its fortunate circumstances. While the Europeans had to rebuild their infrastructure and industries, the US took advantage of their huge lead in development. Due to very poor management and extremely immature foreign policies the US managed to squander their advantage (which they gained through pure luck, geographical location) in a very short period of time. We are witnessing the decline of the US empire. The US needs to give up its delusions of grandeur and agree to mutually beneficial cooperation with the rest the world. I'm not sure if they have such wisdom. I'm worried that they might be schizophrenic. The world has changed. Today the US doesn't sit safely across the ocean.

@dunravin The azov troops trapped in the azovstal steelworks in Mariupol used human shields. They refused to allow civilians to leave despite of humanitarian corridors being present. Russia held a proposed cease fire in order for the civilians to leave, but azov would not allow the civilians to leave.

@blengi USSR signed the non aggression pact in order to delay the German aggression. Germany had a very powerful military at that time. USSR needed time to strengthen its military capacity for an eventual battle against nazi Germany.

Russia has successfully tested the modern RS-28 Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile (most powerful ICBM in the world). Russia has produced Poseidon nuclear capable super torpedoes. Only Russia has this capability. The Russian Defence Ministry successful tested the Avangard hypersonic glide vehicle. Read about its capabilities. Russia has successfully test-launched a new missile defense system A-235 PL-19 Nudol (anti-ballistic and anti-satellite missile system). Best in the world. Russia has successfully tested the S-500 Prometey. Advanced features of the S-500 include: very high degree of situational awareness with an 800km detection range against aircraft, ability to intercept satellites and ICBMs, and its ability to network with older air defense systems such as the S-400 to maximize situational awareness. Russia successfully tested the new S-550 air defense system, this air defense system has entered combat duty. Russia also has very advanced hypersonic missiles (Kh-47M2 Kinzhal, 3M22 Zircon). Russia also has the BrahMos-II hypersonic cruise missile and many other cruise missiles. Russia's Kh-55SM cruise missile has a range similar to US AGM-129 (3000 km), but is able to carry a more powerful warhead of 200 kt.
