  32.  @anya8861  In 2014 there was a coup. Soon after, there was a massacre in Odessa (dozens of people were burned alive). Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed. A civil war broke out due to the rise in ethnic tensions. For 8 years the Ukrainian military was indiscriminately shelling civilians living in Donbas. If you don't believe me, do your own research and find out for yourself.

  33.  @anya8861  This conflict was preventable. If Zelensky honored the Minsk agreement and pledged neutrality, none of this would have happened. The 8 year civil war would have ended and Donbas would have remained part of Ukraine. War is the ultimate failure of diplomacy.

They clearly stated that Ukraine joining nato was a red line and unfortunately this concern was never taken seriously. The Russians openly stated that if nothing changes, they will be forced to act in order to defend their national security. You must understand that enhancing the national security of one country at the expense of another is unacceptable. The Russians have legitimate security concerns.

  41.  @anya8861  With respect to Crimea. The Sevastopol naval base is the main base of the Black sea fleet. Losing this base would be catastrophic for the Russian national security. This is why they quickly annexed Crimea. This and the fact that the populace is predominantly ethnic Russian.

  43.  @anya8861  I think it would have been best for Ukraine to give up Crimea. A piece of territory that Khrushchev gifted to Ukraine in 1954 is not worth the destruction we are witnessing today. The Russians don't recognize the legality of the transfer because it did not correspond to the constitution.
