  1. Never mind what Russia's budget is, more important is what they make with it. Europe will never be able to catch up with Russia's arsenal of hypersonic missiles, flame throwers and what not. The best for Europe is establishing good diplomatic ties. NATO expansion was driven by the US, but the Europeans were comfortable sailing in the US boat thinking they too were part of US hegemony. The Europeans were eager to bad mouth Russia and join in threatening Russia, forgetting it was living off Russian energy. Now the US changed course, and it showed the Europeans were only vassals. Russia has beaten the collective west and Europe needs to swallow its false pride and get to terms with that. When the US is following the 'if you cannot beat them, join them' philosophy against Russia, the Europeans should do the same. If the Europeans try to confront Russia militarily, they will get their heads kicked in.
