@libertarianwarrior4898 That's vodka, not architecture.

It's like the rape child of le style Empire, the Fascist (or downtown Washington DC, if you will) Stripped Classicism, and Gotham Art Deco — having a bad trip. Hence the Russian name for it: "сталинский ампир" ("Le style Empire Staliniste").

@unreleasedcentral2179 That's your typical Russian street ca. 150 years back, from Helsinki to Vladivostok.

He kinda did. And the buildings are still used for their original purposes, be it a university campus building with auditoriums, labs, and dormitories, office, hotel, or residential.
3
And it's the only place in the city where you don't see the building itself (pardon my French) 😁

@slc679 There's more to architecture than glass shards, einstürzende khrushchovkas, or stalinist monstrosities, so I still have better choices than that (maybe not in Moscow anymore, as the reindeer herder of a mayor systematically and viciously eliminates anything and everything of aesthetic and historical value there). And I'll stop being what I want and when I want, thankyouverymuch.

Ты вообще догоняешь, откуда Роман в эту Москву приехал?

Underground garages were not in vogue in Moscow back then. In fact, they're not in vogue in Moscow even now 😕
2
They are. And they do.

Fun fact: they demolished a huge Orthodox temple to clear the site and even started the construction, but they didn't have the technology to build the thing on the soft ground next to the river back then. So they had to stop and resorted to building a huge open-air heated swimming pool, which became the Muscovites' favorite place to get head lice all through the Soviet period. Then, of course, the Soviet Union was no more, the KGB became born-again Orthodox Christian, they demolished the pool and restored the temple.

Except he did. Just lookup "Bald Moscow" in your youtube.

@quasarsavage For that, you'll have to move to Chelyabinsk, not Moscow. And remote work will only be possible until Biden cuts internet links to Russia.
1
@Jake Johansson Oh really? Tell me more about the sanctions and cyberops 😊
1
@Jake Johansson Yes, I know how Internet works, for the last 30 years or so. From BGP ASN filtering to DPI to government-imposed restrictions and sanctions on ISPs. Why?
1
@Jake Johansson Dude. Reality check: I do, and he can.
1
@Jake Johansson Ah, young man… You've got sooo much knowledge to discover in your life. It's a fascinating thing to do, enjoy the process. Good luck with it.

The default accent they still try to teach in English classes in Russia is sort of RP-ish, so it makes sense.
1
Yeah, they're bastards like that. I'm pretty sure that Bald and Alinchik would've found a way to sneak in tho.
1
@Morrov It's, in fact, a sad joke about the Eiffel Tower by Guy de Maupassant 😁
1
If you have to ask, you don't need to know.
1
Well, he is, so…
1
@jpsarot Yeah, but he's from Chelyabinsk.
