@Gazzapa57 You are correct, worldwide debt levels are far too high, particularly government debt. But if what Peter is saying is true and globalization is dying, then the cost of commodities is bound to rise. If most commodities cost more then what we have is called inflation. Inflation reduces the burden on the debt holder. The debt is not going to be as bad in a decade or two if inflation stays at say 10 or 20%. It's funny how things work out.

 @bcanuck US refiners have been resisting updating their refineries so that they can take US crude and do without importing crude for too long. This may be a bit of a wake up call for them.

@Withnail1969 I don't think that the US will have a problem defending what is theirs or what they need though, either that or the US government will make it clear to the refiners that they have to alter their processes to use US crude (which is muuuuch cheaper than policing the oceans!).
