@Movetheproduct I think that there's an over reliance on gas. I'd be happier with more nuclear and even coal.

In the UK new-build housing and public buildings like schools are designed to last... 20 years. No kidding. Yes, they will last a lot longer, but will require MAJOR work probably around the 30 year mark. And yes indeed, I would definitely describe some of the materials as cardboard, which should never be allowed near a building. Buildings are no longer inspected by local government and everything is "self certified", hence things like insulation is sometimes omitted entirely (yes really). Cowboy builders who go belly up after they dispose of properties and disappear only to be reincarnated with no liability. I now don't trust anything built after about the '80s. An extraordinarily sad state of affairs. Rule Britannia... NOT. 🇬🇧 Just don't get me started on the rabbit hutch, no storage design philosophy. Having said that we will cope with less energy, but it will cost us dearly. All the best.

@wolfgangpreier9160 Jesus, what world do you live in? I would bet good money that in every single European country bar none that there will be some old and/or vulnerable people who have to choose between food or heat. You may not know any, but they do exist. Demand for food banks in the UK is at record highs and often the people using them work.

@protorhinocerator142 Yup, they both have advantages and disadvantages. Modern coal power plants with scrubbers pollute far, far less than older technology if as I do, you don't count CO2 as as a problem. If you have very large reserves of extremely high quality coal then it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to ignore it.

@wolfgangpreier9160 The difference that the sanctions make is that very little of the money gets back to Russia. Slava Ukraine. 🇺🇦🇬🇧

@jessefisher1809 No. Like it or not YOU personally cannot live in the modern world without coal, no matter where you live. Try living without steel, concrete and most pharmaceuticals for a start. Next, factor in the cost increases from all of the existing coal plants switching to gas. Do the maths. It doesn't add up.

@wolfgangpreier9160 Mainly coal during WW2. Just like Germany is doing now, because nuclear power is evil and there might even be a tsunami! Idiot Greens. Lignite (brown coal) in Germany, but that's ok because Germany is great at manipulating the figures when it suits them. Anthracite (black coal) in the UK. I'm in favour of bringing back some coal fired power plants, burning our own coal in the UK. Green support and "the world is going to end" agenda will both die when the cost of living gets high enough.
