βΒ @paulranderson6991Β The change over happened in 18 hours, but the planning and preparation took years. Having said that I totally agree with you. This has been a known issue for Ukraine and neighbours for over a year. Being generous they should have been laying track for the last 9 months. If it hasn't happened it's probably because of vested interests, rather than incompetence, considering that Ukraine has demonstrated how efficient and innovative it can be fighting this war. Agriculture is Ukraine's primary export and the revenue from that pays for the war. Someone needs to get the finger out and change the gauge to Europe's. Slava Ukraine. πΊπ¦π¬π§

Β @Xaran001Β I beg to differ. The Mediterranean Sea will be ruled by NATO as will the North Atlantic. The Pacific is huge. Japan will secure its own trade routes. The US will probably secure trade with Australia. The Indian Ocean is where the US Navy is pulling out first. There are virtually no alliances between the countries that use that region. That is where I see trouble first. Will this hurt the US? Zeihan thinks not, I'm not so sure. As Chinese manufacturing diminishes, so too will trade with Europe. The Indian Ocean will be a test-bed. Saudi Arabia has been borderline hostile to the US lately, which is a dumb move. Iran and Saudi Arabia are regional rivals. Eventually Saudi Arabia will probably need assistance. The US may come back or they may be on their own. Their carriers will mean that they can sail back anytime and devastate an opponent, leave and return any time they want. The Middle East will revert to an incredible mess. Everyone hates their neighbours. They have oil, but can't feed themselves. You can't eat oil. The US is sick of them. Slava Ukraine. πΊπ¦π¬π§

Very true. It was a little bit more complicated than that, but that was probably the primary reason. π Slava Ukraine. πΊπ¦π¬π§

You answered your own question. There's too many spongers. If you want to protect your shipping you need to build a navy.

Excellent news. π Slava Ukraine. πΊπ¦π¬π§

Years, perhaps a decade as another commenter observed. Mines, less young people, destroyed infrastructure, a capital intensive process in a time of reduced worldwide capital. Slava Ukraine. πΊπ¦π¬π§ πΎπ½π»

What planet do you live on?

Great point. Especially since it would rapidly also stop all Russian commercial shipping too. Slava Ukraine. πΊπ¦π¬π§

Very true. Russia has a dilemma. π Slava Ukraine. πΊπ¦π¬π§

Yea, I actually expect the grain corridor to keep working, because if Russia pulls out then ALL Russian commercial shipping is fair game in the Black Sea - grain, oil, everything, going in and out. Russia knows this and I don't think that they can afford it. Correction. RUSSIA ABSOLUTELY CAN'T AFFORD IT. They'll beat their chests and threaten all the time, but if it stops then Ukraine is going to put some Harpoon Missiles on a speedboat and target Russian civilian shipping. Slava Ukraine. πΊπ¦π¬π§

If just one ship is sunk then insurance will stop and ships will not come. Slava Ukraine. πΊπ¦π¬π§

Probably β , but it's very unclear.

βΒ @obcane3072Β No, they use different rail cars.
1
A very good point. Military transport probably gets priority too.

Yea, overconfidence is a common trait among geopolitical analysts. Take everything he says with a healthy pinch of salt. π§

You're getting the cheapest proxy war against Russia in US history and all you can do is moan! More than half of the weapons donated to Ukraine would have cost US taxpayers literally more to scrap than donate. Come on, can't you do math? Be grateful that US lives aren't on the line, like during the Korean or Vietnam Wars. The USA is getting a phenomenally good deal this time. Ask yourself this: do you want an aggressive Russia to be stronger or weaker, because eventually the US will have to go head to head against them. You display incredible ignorance and lack of critical thinking, not to mention an appalling moral compass. Have you been drinking too much of Moscow's social media coolaid or are you maybe on their payroll? Slava Ukraine. πΊπ¦π¬π§
1
Β @Jeremy-WCΒ Yup. I'm glad. I want a well funded defence industry, so that we have the best stuff to fight Russia and China.

The UK?

Not going to happen. NATO isn't going to get directly involved. This is a proxy war because that's the safest way to fight a nuclear power. If the price for avoiding a nuclear war between NATO and Russia is that millions of people in parts of the world that are very vocal about how much they hate the West and wish to bring it down, then so be it. We can perhaps help one or two friendly nations, but over half of the world has not voted in the UN to condemn the Russian invasion of the Ukraine. They need to hurry up and pick the right side in this Cold War 2, or maybe dictators around the world like Russia because they can buy their weapons. Their choice, but my money is on them picking the wrong side. They're not in the habit of making good decisions, which is why they do badly. Slava Ukraine. πΊπ¦π¬π§

Exactly.

Β @killjoy1887Β True. The USA doesn't lose wars, it gets bored. I remember the Cold War well. Americans were the best anti-communists. In ways it was great, but growing up under the mushroom cloud wasn't. Yesterday we were lucky. Today we're in Cold War 2. I'm sure that we will support Ukraine. They will join NATO and the EU (if it doesn't break up). Why? Simple: Russia is a loose cannon with nuclear weapons. At the moment the West is tearing itself apart. One of the good things about being in a fight is that people come together. You're also reminded who your friends are. The game is back on! Look after yourself my friend. π

Great, isn't it. π

It is just theatre.
