  5. ​ @manmonkee Being Scottish and having spoken to many pro-independence people over the years I am constantly dismayed by how little logic plays a part in their stance. Nationalism is one of the easiest forms of politics - it's easy to convince people that everything wrong is your big neighbour's fault.

  6.  @shelleyscloud3651  I am talking about a post independence scenario, not whilst we were a part of the EU. Again, but clearer I hope: In the future Scotland will not get a single Euro from the EU IF it becomes independent, until it joins the EU. And even then it is not guaranteed. The Eastern Block countries which joined the EU received aid from the EU to improve their physical, governmental and judicial infrastructure and not to fund economies which had structural issues. Scotland already has a sound political, judicial and physical infrastructure so would not qualify. There was also a huge political consensus for security reasons to help Eastern Europe, which again does not apply to Scotland.

  16. The EU is not interested in having Scotland on the basis of security. That's NATO's job. Turkey is similar. A bridge or tunnel is a fantasy. It would cost WAY too much. We wouldn't be allowed into the EU, much less the Euro. Instead we would be strung along like Turkey forever. The EU doesn't want us, they just want to break up the UK as revenge for Brexit.

  26. ​ @elektrotehnik94 No, the EU would NOT accept Scotland as we don't meet the entry requirements for the EU, let alone the Euro. Politically the EU absolutely will not accept another poor nation which will be a net drain on the EU for many decades to come with nothing to benefit the EU like increased stability. The only reason that the EU hasn't ever come out and said this is that they absolutely hate the UK for leaving the EU and want the UK to fail. Get real.
