Coupled with the EU insisting on imposing EU minimum taxation rates for all British Overseas Territories. The EU's mission creep is relentless and utterly unacceptable.

Well said. The EU has had massive mission creep. Also I am sure that we are heading towards a global recession/depression soon, if we're not there already. Given the coming economic nightmare then Italy, and perhaps others, may decide to leave, because Italy will be in a huge mess. There may be too deep a divide between northern and southern Europe and also between eastern and western Europe to survive another 2008 Financial Crisis X 1.5 to 2. Scary.

Russia and Germany are close, then at war, then close, then at war, then close, then at war, then close, then at war, then... get the picture? It's been ongoing since before the USA was a nation.

As a Scot who voted to remain, but accepts reality, I can honestly say that I understand both of your points of view.

If the EU suceeds in getting a military and expands then will non EU nations that have currently good relations with the EU then consider it an inevitable threat? How would the USA, UK or Turkey view the EU then? A potential rival perhaps? With a huge military comes the temptation to use it. Just a thought which occurred to me now.

Yup. Many EU companies are like social employment programs and completely disregard shareholders. I gave up on investing in the EU a long time ago.

I'm a Brit and I'm finding it impossible to find information about these meetings, surprise, surprise. Can anyone please let me know exactly which countries are meeting with the EU. I assume that the Ukraine will be one and Belarus won't be there, but who else? Thanks a bunch. π

Ukraine didn't just pose a threat to Putin and his oligarchy as you stated, but also an opportunity. More resources. Imagine how much power he would wield over the global South by controlling all Russian and Ukrainian grain, fertilizer and energy. Also if Ukraine were conquered Russia would gain millions of men for their military which would allow them to continue expanding.

βΒ @tenochtitlan2430Β I really don't think that an EU military is possible without GIGANTIC changes and the EU is REALLY going to have to spend a lot to be able to do without the USA. Quite frankly I doubt it is possible. If you are American and read this and think "good, who cares what those scrounging Europeans do", then think again. The US was dragged into WW1, 2 and the Cold War, because it couldn't afford to economically lose Europe and have either an enriched Germany or Russia as a geopolitical rival. WW3 would be no different.

Because of two world wars.

A pipe dream! π

Nonsense. Russia must be soundly defeated and impoverished to stop their imperial war of aggression. Their (your?) Tsar, Putin the Small only has to leave Ukraine to stop the war. π·πΊπ€‘ Alternatively they can stay in Ukraine and improve the soil. π»ππ» Slava Ukraine. πΊπ¦π¬π§

The one and only time states wanted to leave the Union it led to the American Civil War, the bloodiest war which the US ever experienced. In a Federal EU would a state seceding lead to war? Personally I don't think that a truly unified EU is possible without a common language and that's never going to happen now that the UK is a member. π€£ Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Sorry but Eastern Europe cannot succeed due to demographics. Hell, most of Europe has bad demographics, with the exception of France, Sweden and the UK whose populations are boosted by immigration.

You get a gold star! It's a bureaucratic dictatorship. You forgot the lack of a rational energy policy.
