  1. Simple. Because the family gagged the police to not state that she's a high risk individual. They tried to portray her as the model lady, with the model family, good job and no problems. So it naturally captured the public's imagination as to how a supposed lady with the 'perfect' life and no issues could A. disappear and B. could even conceivably take their own life. The public were left to form a completely inaccurate image of this person. Had the public known that this was someone that was struggling with alcoholism, and also had had police and health services visit her only last month, the reaction would've been sombre but not over the top.
