  1. There is no doubting that the idea, notion and movement for pan-arabism post WW1 was dented, negatively undermined and influenced by Western powers. However. I can't help but feel that the Arab world really sold itself short when springing up in pretty much every country was totalitarian and power hungry leaders. Either that, or terribly insecure and fragile 'democracies' like we see in North Africa and Lebanon. A real tragedy as Arab nationalism could've by now had some really positive fruits post colonialism. A terrible shame.
