  1. Err am I the only person thinking TUNNEL?? We in the UK have the channel tunnel that connects the UK with mainland Europe. It's 50KM long, and it goes under the sea. It cost 9 billion pounds to build and construction only took 6 years. Building a tunnel is A. safer and B. it will mean that neither the wildlife or the people are affected. It is also easier to manage and keep safe. We basically drive down to the station, drive our cars onto a train and in less than 35 minutes, we come out of the other side in France. Building a tunnel under this gap will be even easier as it is land, and not water. At its lowest point, the channel tunnel is 75m under the sea bed. You don't have to deal with any such issues when digging a tunnel under land.
