As a 'companion' to 13 dogs who live in and out of the house whilst looking after our sheep and cattle, I cannot stand it when I hear people 'needing' dogs to make them happy to save them from loneliness. Too many dogs are used to suit a human's lifestyle, than understanding the needs of a dog. I've come across so many people who get a dog purely on the basis of how they look, but fail to provide them with enough time for walks in order to release energy etc. Only get a dog if you can make that dog happy. It isn't just about you and your selfish needs. That's why we have so many dogs going into shelters.
