when it comes to racism in the UK, it usually its always played down or brushed under the carpet. so he's saying they're just allegations in order to play down the matter.

Not surprising at all. In 1998 at the age of 15, I had trials at Bromley and Bishop Stortford. Throughout the few weeks I spent at both clubs, English players and coaching staff would make comments which at the time I just laughed off. I think most of the time I laughed them off nervously because I was the only 'foreign' one, and also because maybe I was too innocent to really take it all in. My dad is Italian and mum is Kurdish. The moment I said my mum was from north of Iraq, at Bromley I was immediately asked to bring in my passport the next day. I still don't know why as I wasn't being paid, and we were living and registered at a local school. My parents both surgeons at bromley and orpington hospitals. When I asked why, the coach said in front of all of the other kids 'aw we just want to make sure you aren't spying for Saddam Hussain'. One of the other coaches also made a comment about me probably not wanting to have showers with other kids because 'he's probably had his thing half chopped off' (assuming I was circumcised). At the end of the trials, they had arranged a dinner party for everyone. They didn't invite me. When I asked why I wasn't invited, one of the coaching staff responded by saying that they just assumed I'm not allowed anywhere near alcohol, and that they were serving pork. Weird as A. I'm not muslim and B. never discussed religion or dietary needs with them.
