My Grandparents used to tell me how my great grandparents were enjoying a lovely summer's afternoon in their village. All of a sudden, these 'big birds' appear out of nowhere. This was in the 1920's, and the British government had secretly allowed the RAF to hone their skills for battle by using Kurdish villages in modern day Iraq as target practice AKA to 'crush a rebellion by the Kurds who aspire for independence'.
My great grandparents had never seen aeroplanes before, so these poor people were just naively sat looking up without any knowledge of the terror that was about to unfold. Suddenly bombs began falling, and my great granddad ended up losing a brother and a cousin. Only to then find out that the people bombing them were the very same people who'd be welcomed in the village with fresh fruits, and tea as us Kurds were usually the friends of the British. Years later, I came across a documentary regarding the bombings of Kurdish and Waziri villages, and I couldn't believe that the journalists were asking the pilots if they felt guilty for what they did. Almost putting the blame on the pilots, even though they of course were not the decision makers. I remember one pilot saying he felt terrible about it all, as the Kurds were civilised, welcoming, and never caused us any problems.
Your government sends these soldiers, and in many cases they're badly informed into war. Many are either oblivious to who's lives they're destroying. They go home feeling guilty, once they end up finding out who is bad and who is actually good, or when the fallout from their involvement ends up being a bad one. You as the British people need to stand up and put a stop to this. I know it is your government, but it gives you such a woeful image. A child should be told happy stories. He/she should've grown up either living or visiting his ancestral village. I didn't. My grandparents had to move to the city, because you destroyed our villages. And for what? Nothing other than to control Iraq's resources and pillage it. Money again chosen ahead of humanity and human life.

In the 1930's, the RAF bombed villages, towns and cities in Kurdistan, Northern Iraq. They used chemical weapons, metal crows feet as well as delay action bombs on innocent men, women and in children in the name of suppressing Kurdish self determination and as a result, safeguard British oil interests in Iraq. Such information was kept hidden classified from the public for over 5 decades in order to 'not damage the image of her majesty's government. They used napalm on innocent people living in their own land for nothing other than greed, thievery and land grabbing. People like Assange are heroes to Kurds like me because very rarely were such stories ever told publicly. Even when Saddam used chemical weapons on Halabja, the British and Americans protected him at the UN and pinned the blame on Iran.
I've become so unbelievably disillusioned with british media over the past decade plus. They are partizan, generally with the establishment, seem to almost be in the pockets of the absolute worst politicians and seemingly helping Patel to draw up changing to the official secrets act that will have journalists sent to nearly 15 years in prison for handling leaked government documents. When will the people of this country wake up, and realise that their freedoms are being curtailed?
