Don't worry, unless they own the ports. Port fees are very expensive according to freight forwarders. And it's the most expensive way to store goods. What you gotta worry about is it they're planning to leave it there until they get confiscated for non payment and then auctioned off thus avoiding fees and import duties!

It's for GDP

BTW, you know these big RORO ships are dual use military transports right? State TV showed them used for efficient transport of big tanks and military vehicles. The intention in a war situation is they'll call these civilian ships and if you hit it, you're attacking civilians!

The port fees are very expensive. What you gotta worry about is if they intend to run up the bill so much that the cars are confiscated for auction.. And then they'll buy it for a song and avoid customs tax and duties

@diedampfbrasse98 unless the ports are sitting idle anyway, which normally most ports should be quite busy, they'll be losing money. From my experience bonded warehousing at ports can be super expensive. And after a year of parking there, the cost of the cars would have doubled by now.

@EllieMaes-Grandad yes indeed. But if the cars have sat there for a year, paying the port fees is not feasible either

@zacksmith5644 what did you try?

@llothar68 good point, nobody would buy a car without warranty. Although BYD in the China domestic market had a very questionable track record of warranty. BYD can use a third party to buy those cars from the auction. I'm not sure if I'd call the port managers stupid. Nobody would normally leave stuff sitting at the ports for that long given the high costs for storage. So honestly I dunno what the game plan is.
