If they issued chargers it’s because you can use the chargers to reload the spare magazines quickly. You can do that with 5.56 and .308 as well, as that’s what the chargers are meant for, not loading into the rifle. Steve didn’t do away with charger loading, it went away in the 50’s with commercial rifles.

Semi automatic is superior to bolt action in pretty much every way, and are elevate enough that every military replaced their bolt actions with one. And an AK isn’t some magical unjammable wonder weapon, nor is an AR a fragile flower that’ll jam if you look at is funny. Tl;dr: there’s no need to limit yourself to a bolt action, especially if one of the intended purposes of your rifle is shooting at people.

Doing so is a federal crime. You also can’t make any new machine guns if you’re not a manufacturer, and you can’t just get an FFL to make them to make them for yourself. You have to be in the gun business. That’s a federal crime if you just make yourself a machine gun.

Budget hunting rifles are often cheaper than even the cheapest surplus rifles, and are going to be more accurate, chambered for commonly available cartridges, and many already come with the features and accessories that bubba’s try to put on to their butchered rifles. Also bubbas often seem to think that cutting their gun up makes it more valuable.
