The best thing someone could do to update the concept is switch from a bolt action to a semiautomatic rifle.

Jack Kunst Seems to be that Cooper had a frontiersmen or such in mind, who would be far away from civilization while having the possibility of facing a variety of threats of both the beastly and human kind, in a variety of ranges and environments present in the wilderness.

I mean it’s a proven fact that optics make most people better shooters. They’re simply easier to use than irons are.

Yah, but then you’re out a rear sight, a central aspect of the scout rifle.

Thing is there’s no reason to need a scout set up for that. The Russians never issued out scout rifles. If they issued chargers it’s because you can use the chargers to reload the spare magazines quickly. You can do that with 5.56 and .308 as well, as that’s what the chargers are meant for, not loading into the rifle. Steve didn’t do away with charger loading, it went away in the 50’s with commercial rifles.

@F1ghteR41 Then why bring up the scout scope set up?

@F1ghteR41 And my point is that chargers to load the rifle directly are unnecessary now. You can have a standard scope set up with a detachable mag and reload that mag with chargers.

@F1ghteR41 Its not been enough that organizations that’s cruelly use fighting rifles to adopt the scout rifle style of docile mourning or retaining chargers fed rifles.

Pretty much the only bolt action rifles that sue magazines great than 5/10 rounds use magazines used in semi autos, which are restricted in Canada.

A scout rifle being bolt action instead of semi automatic is not a factor in its favor, especially if it’s chambered in .308. Semi automatic is superior to bolt action in pretty much every way, and are elevate enough that every military replaced their bolt actions with one. And an AK isn’t some magical unjammable wonder weapon, nor is an AR a fragile flower that’ll jam if you look at is funny. Tl;dr: there’s no need to limit yourself to a bolt action, especially if one of the intended purposes of your rifle is shooting at people.
