  9. Tomas Mood That literally not what sporterization was. Sporterization was to trim surplus (and already legal) rifles into hunting rifles. In that vast majority of cases this wasn’t done due to some appreciation of the rifles history or whatever, you don’t appreciate the history of something by cutting it up, but rather it’s because they where cheaper than brand new hunting rifles. That’s the major reason it was done. These guns where cheap and they wanted to make them look/feel like civilian hunting rifles. There is no bond between a soldier and his weapon there.

  11. Probably the best case for many of these guns. Main problem is that most places I go want way too much for even sporterized rifles.

  14. Those laws generally apply only to semi autos, not bolt actions and single shots, and pretty much none of the semi autos in question are military surplus. No those conversions where done because they wanted shotguns for whatever reason because they thought a full power rifle was unnecessary, such as prison guard duty or civilian bird and small game hunting. Others are to get rid of the unneeded military hardware to make the rifle better for hunting in the hush, as noted in the video.

  15. Because there’s no such thing as “properly sporterized”. Very few sporterized rifles I’ve seen have been of any real quality.

  16. What does sporterization have to do with any of that? Spotters are mainly surplus foreign arms that where sold in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Most of them in the US aren’t even American rifles, but rather German, British, Russian, and Italian.

  18. You can find sportierized Mausers at nearly every other pawn shop and gun store near me. Thing is one of them are in need of a new sporterized stock. If you can basically a complete Mauser rifle without a stock for a reasonable price sure why not.
