The liberal pluralistic government and culture of Germany today would argue otherwise and say the title is clickbait.

@battlepassgaming Except that is wrong. Stalin did not think the Germans would invade. The Soviets had invaded Poland in 1920, including Stalin personally was in charge but failed. It was purely a land grab to secure Winter access to the Baltic, just like the war with Finland was.

@fosterfuchs Also wrong. The Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact was very different than the Munich Agreement. It was a literal secret "pact of thieves". Stalin might have assumed he would have to go to war with Germany at some point, but he did not think it would be in 1941. Stalin was warned by the British, his own intelligence staff, and even German defectors on the eve of the invasion. But he did not listen to it because it didn't fit the way he wanted things to play out. Being a sociopathic dictator has its down sides.

Carlin was a cynical comedian not a historian or political scientist.

@vcjuul9190 Your ignorance is kinda painful to watch yeah.

@depredador93 Ruzziaboo... That is false for another thing. Poland was apportioned that part because the point of the Munich Agreement was to return regions with ethnic majorities to which ever states they "belonged" to. Poland wasn't even a signator. Also all of central Europe was in chaos in this period, with pretty much everyone at war with everyone else.
