Its so sad that people have effortless access to the greatest amount of information in human history and yet still insist on being dumbasses.

Even if they could, and they were known (which they weren't) it wouldn't have been economically rational to do so because there were sources closer at hand that could be extracted or traded for at far lower cost.

But there is no evidence of this "rebranding". They wouldn't have just collected and buried the old weapons. They would have reforged them.

@yodasmomisondrugs7959 Possible, but not likely. People often used them for generations. Weapons in this era took a lot of effort and relatively huge resources to make. It would be like building all new aircraft carriers or nuke subs every time a president was elected today.

Hordes are usually buried when there is fear that they are going to be stolen. Such as when society collapses or an enemy army approaches. Its not likely these were a ritual sacrifice or part of a peace, people of this era were more pragmatic than that. And any kind of ritual act, would have had monuments over them, and would have been plundered long ago. Far more likely the represent a hidden stash of weapons that couldn't be recovered in time, or a desperate attempt to hide them, by the losing side in a war.

@DanDavisHistory It still is more indicative of a "secular" storage or stash, than having any religious or even political significance.
