@UnderWaterExploring I knew someone would provide an example forthwith. Thank you.
1
@UnderWaterExploring Yes you don't even realize you are being trolled.
1
@UnderWaterExploring I guess it wasn't that far of a drop was it?
1
@agalitev Nope. You don't get one without the other. Atheism presumes there is no gods, no afterlife, no supernaturalism as described by religions, regardless of thousands of years of very smart people thinking about it. Only the reality describeable by science and observation, reason and logic. That is the belief system.
1
@miguelatkinson Even highly educated Western people take a literal interpretation. In the US its probably a majority of Christians and that is doctrine in most denominations of all three Abrahamic religions.

I wonder just how well that "excuse to play the Zelda video game" thesis proposal would fly. lol I now know more about the backstory of Zelda than I ever wanted to. Thanks.
1
Also, how to write off you vacation to Iceland.
1
The French Bulldog breed of dog did not exist at the time. It is completely man made. /pedant
1
Its the duality of dog's relationship with humans as companion but subservient. There are plenty of disparaging phrases for dogs in English/Western culture, where its an almost universal taboo against being cruel or eating them. There no reason to think it would be different in Jewish and early Christian society.

Reminds me of the fan clubs that little kids create where they make up petty rituals and tests for each other. lol
1
It couldn't be anyone other than Florida Man.
1
So... Sumerians could count to 6 and EVERYTHING!!!1!

@thealmightyaku-4153 The activist atheist movement is mostly male academics so it has a very strong chauvinist streak to it. Kind of like claiming that feminism is a fairytale nonsense ideology religion....

Picking at the the nits....
1
@Miguel.Angel.Galvez Irony. The last sentence of your 2nd post contradicts your entire first post. And reiterates my point, that you managed to not be aware of. Somehow.
1
@Miguel.Angel.Galvez Except you are still mistakenly equating "religions" that existed and exist not for "commercialism" and the New Age movement(s) that very much are. I guess because you went into a Christian bookstore once and think that is all there is to it. Or maybe you don't understand what the work "commercial" means.
1
You obviously aren't and don't know Christian theology. Atheists are considered like all non-believers, either "lost" and in need of "saving" or are under the influence of evil (satan), esp. the militant "new atheists". Atheism in definitely not accepted as a religion. Christians can view Islam in analogous terms because it is an Abrahamic religion. It shares the same roots. It does not do the same for others like Buddhism or Hinduism etc.
1
@riggsmarkham922 Feel free to list any large religion that does not place importance on "holy text". The Abrahamic religions are light weights compared to the Hindu Vedas or the Buhhdist Tripiṭaka, ect.
1
@7:30 You think all those workin' angels had a union? lol Thought this was going to be a colab with the Roman fanboy Toober who rants about historical revisionism.
1
"Merica...
1
@10:30 "millennialism" Mainly salvation for them, but apocalypse all those meanie non-believers. Borrowed wholly from Christianity.
1
@DjoumyDjoums Stoic Agnostic: Whatever.
1
Its just human nature. You get 2 or more people together, they are going to start arguing and doing their own thing.
1
Because he is describing theoretical interpretations of the evidence from this site, not advocating for any particular theory, or as in probably your case, some obvious off the wall alt-history belief set. You know, he is being science.
1
lol. Your presumption is not correct.
1
Except Abrahamic religions completely deny the existence of other gods. So that would contradict the belief system.
1
@faithlesshound5621 Ah no. The gods of cultures that get converted are "demoted" to negative entitites as part of the "demonization" (literally) and debasement of the native religions. But their divinity is never acknowledged. No saints are not prayed to as gods, but are as intercessionaries, with the intent they are "sub-contractors" (lol) but not distinct from "God". A bit of a hold over from Roman paganism, but not a direct one.

It was a popular fad at the time. My mom was into it for a while, before she pivoted back to evangelical Christian in the 90s.

IOW, Mani would tell you anything you wanted to hear as long as he could keep mooching off you.
1
@stubbwinkley4015 Low intelligence? As mentioned in the video, "absence of belief" requires no awareness of it. Basically unthinking existence. If you don't believe in religions, that still leaves a hole in your world view. In the case of atheists, that is filled with the belief that there are no gods or afterlife, etc. Simply the inverse belief system.
1
Probably a chieftain's stronghold.
1
@Raqi799 Not a good example because Catholics DO pray to the Saints (statues) for intercession instead of directly to God.
1
Not canon. literally. lol
