They had 20 years to plan and prepare for it, as well as 20 years of America paying for a civil infrastructure and beacuracy they could inherit.

@Dan-Martin Not for free. Spoils of a 20 year war.

Who's? Ours or theirs?
10
Yes, those are countries on planet Earth.
6
Because they were seen (rightly for the most part) as agents of the occupiers.

@ANIMALS_AND_MORE_moments No. Taiwan sees itself as the legitimate government of ALL OF CHINA. That is the conflict here, otherwise they probably could have resolved this by just creating separate countries decades ago.

I hope you aren't American because that would be soooo ironic.

@mnoorkhan Well they do, but over all of China. GLWT.

@jaydee6268 Given your posts here, seems like its still quite the problem.

@ANIMALS_AND_MORE_moments Currently. That hasn't been the attitude since the Civil War "ended". There were points where the PRC probably would have let it go for concessions if it weren't for the Kuomintang refusing because they still harbored delusions of coming back and "liberating" the rest of China. Neither side is the "good guy" here.

The US caused 20 years of war and misery in Afghanistan to impose its will and culture on societies that have successfully resisted it for centuries. Who is irrational?
1
@worldpeace1822 Well, they've become the occupiers now haven't they?
1
Realpolitik. China has veto power and no one is under the illusion that Taiwan recognition isn't a dead issue. No one cares about Afghanistan at the moment, not even America.

@gilh3947 Your ignorant racism is showing.
1
I hate to break it to you but the Taliban don't GAS what you think.
1
Reminder: Trump negotiated the US withdrawal from Astan.
1
@strangerhythm Nope. You are more likely a paid disinfo poster than me.
1
I hope you're not American, because then you might not like the things your "patriots" did to the "loyalists" during the Revolutionary War. Spoiler, it was everything you list.

The US came for Al Qaida, checked that box. Then got side quested into trying to bring "freedom and democracy" for 20 years before realizing it wouldn't take.
