  2.  @IvanDmitriev1  Ah no. It was also pre-radar, so it would be much easier to penetrate air defenses. Naval scout aircraft had fairly short ranges, so that means your ships would have to be able to sail close to their target. Long range, also means long loiter time. The USSR had a huge border and the German frontier was a huge area. Being able to detect and record troop movements not just snapshots of positions is invaluable intelligence we take for granted today, but would have been novel at the time.
