  1. Would be difficult to do effectively with the tools of the time. Very high degree of craftmanship, and few gunsmiths would stoop to (and risk their reputations) producing such pieces.

  3. You might have a point with Minié ball, but round ball does not have that problem. The patch and back of the ball will sit neatly in the muzzle until rammed. These were sport and dueling pistols, not war or hunting. So no user was going to be rushing to reload while moving etc.

  4.  @edi9892  It was, but the cutting of the grooves was fairly straight forward once they were started. You would not have that if you were basically honing a helical channel in the barrel with an oblong cutter. It would be easy to produce just a lumpy mess.
