Lets face it, the Americans knew they couldn't beat the NVA and the Viet Cong and fled back across the Pacific with the footprint of some Vietnamese rice farmers sandal on their asses and left the war to the South Vietnamese. As for Afghanistan, after 20 years of fighting the Taliban and other Afghans they cut and ran in the middle of the night leaving a whole lot of equipment.
