  1. Forgo licensing fees in exchange for a "relationship to the consumer" = Merchandise the hell out of all the brands they own now. Might not sound that great, but I think the whole point is the full control of these properties, a monopoly of sorts of all things Disney (Huge Marvel library, Disney itself, Star Wars, etc...)
