  2. I read about the shroud many decades ago (I'm now 73), around the same period of time when I was reading about the Dead Sea Scrolls. Of course, there are many theories surrounding both of those, including the idea that Jesus didn't actually die on the cross because he was removed from it whilst still alive. However, carbon dating has left some very big questions about its validity. I can't remember whether the actual date of the discovery of the shroud was mentioned in the book I read, but I think it was. I visited Israel in the late 90's, and went to Mount Masada and the Dead Sea. Fascinating. However, I take it all with a very large pinch of salt.
