I was born and educated in Dublin. My mother was from Belfast, my father from Lancaster. The Northern Irish conflict was a mixture of both politics and religion. They do, after all, tend to go hand in hand. The treatment of the Catholic people at the time it was invaded by the Protestant British was absolutely horrendous, but I won't go into any lengthy details. I was brought up as a Protestant in a Catholic country (1951 - 1973), and never had any problems with it at all. By the time I left Ireland, I was an atheist, and still am.

@johnforeman6620 Hello, John. Yes, too many people dwell on and hang on to the past, when what they should be doing is dealing with the present.....and the future. That goes for everything that's presently going on all over the world, and holding hatred for someone or another country because of the past is not only pointless, it's downright ignorant. I'm sick of seeing the word "Covid" on the news and online, and am already fed up with the headlines about Afghanistan, particularly because I'm currently living in the UK.....20,000 MORE (I think those numbers are nowhere near the real ones). I hold nothing against any religion, nor those who believe in them. We are all entitled to make our own choices, but those who try to force their ways of life and/or beliefs on others are not my friends. Stay safe and well, wherever you are...;-)

Yes, Simon, your last two sentences hit the nail on the head..... The religion is secondary to the violence which is inbred in some of those communities.
