I'm no mathematician, but the first thing that came to my mind about the number of reports on activist threats (left, right, Muslim, white-supremacists, etc) is that, percentage-wise, it's quite high on the Muslim side, even though the numbers appear to be low in comparison. I haven't read the comments yet, but if you take the ethnic ratio of population numbers, e.g. 1 in every 1,000, my age-old brain isn't coming to the same mathematical conclusion as yourself, Simon. Anyway, I'll go and read the comments now, and maybe find that I'm very wrong...;-D
