My father (a Lancastrian) started with the Merchant Navy as a young man, then moved to Dublin and captained the supply ships for The Commissioners of Irish Lights (run by Trinity House in London). Their main job was to bring supplies to the many lighthouses around the coasts of Ireland, as well as ferrying the lighthouse keepers to and from those lighthouses. He loved the sea, and he'd be horrified to see what's happened to the RNLI now (may he rest in peace). My history teacher was also a volunteer for the Irish Lifeboats, and I remember him quickly leaving the classroom one day when he was called out. When I was 15 or 16 years of age (1960's), I remember my father telling me that the world would be full of coffee-coloured people in the future. I didn't have a clue what he meant by that, but I do now.

  29. You're absolutely right, Andy. It's very important (and beneficial) to say hello to any stranger on the street or in the park as, very often, you'll get a response and probably a smile as well. I'm going on 73 and live alone (but am not lonely), and always say hello to people whenever I'm outdoors. It makes for a pleasant day, and sometimes a brief conversation. Stay well.

To do that, they need to cause chaos and unrest. The expected outcome of this is civil war, which will give them the perfect excuse for another lockdown, plus martial law.   35. Good morning, Andy. As a woman of 73 who spent some years as a driver around London (dispatch, minicab, and private chauffeuring), I'm appalled at the state of today's taxi services. I'm now living in Yorkshire and, because of my age (plus reduced bus services), I somewhat rely on taxis now. All the local cab services have now been taken over by one company, and they're really dreadful and very unreliable. I've never used Uber, as I don't think it takes cash payments, as well as some of the drivers being a bit dodgy. I'd really like to be able to find a private driver who I could make advance bookings with, but I haven't got a clue how to go about doing that. Any ideas from yourself would be very much appreciated. Take care.

I'm nearly 73, and only started using the internet in 2013 (all self-taught). You would have had a good giggle at watching me trying to work it all out and find my way around - I was like someone who'd been blindfolded and placed in a large maze. Having only ever used MS Office in my workplace, I was very wary about placing myself in a potentially vulnerable situation, so I took my time and didn't click on anything unless I was 100% sure that it was safe. As time has passed, I still exercise precaution, as it can be too easy to become complacent. I think this is where many people make some big mistakes when online, as they don't take enough time before mindlessly acting on their impulses. In a nutshell, it's down to every user to ensure that they stay safe as possible whilst browsing.

It seems that most broadband providers are now in the throes of removing them from their packages, and only offering Wi-Fi for smartphones, etc. Phasing them out is probably something to do with being able to track all communications (as well as the users themselves), and/or removing the costs of maintenance. I don't know, but I'm certainly curious and worried, as many elderly people either don't have the new gadgets and/or don't know how to use them. BB really is creeping in very fast.

I'm in the same position as everyone else, but I know I must make a vote in order to REDUCE the chances of the Con/Lab/Lib parties from winning. I had hoped to vote for Reform, but Tice's recent behaviour has made me seriously question that, so I'll probably end up voting for an independent, or just write "I DO NO CONSENT" on my card. However, I've never been one to give up on anything during my 73 years of life, and I don't want to start now. To be honest, I know I'd feel a lot more positive if we, the people of the UK, had someone we could aim our energy and will towards. Someone who would act as a leader of sorts, and with whom we could be a collective and powerful resilience against those who are ruthlessly destroying our very existence. We desperately need a clear direction in which we can rebel.   231. I've been wondering what "dumb mode" meant, so now I know. However, what's the advantage to having my smart meter set that way? Surely my gas and electricity usage will still be the same, no matter what kind of meter I have fitted, and charged at the same amount, whether or not the readings are sent automatically or by myself to my provider. As long as I continue to pay my bills, there's no reason why my supplies should be shut off. Also, what sort of personal data could they possibly be using, apart from how much gas or electricity I use? I'm 72, but I haven't yet reached the stage of being in dumb mode, I don't think, so I'm a bit puzzled by why anyone would object to the smart meters. Any response would be very much appreciated.   427. Net Zero is a complete scam, just like so many other "new" rules and regulations which have been thrown at us for the last few years. It all boils down to total control over the public, as well as heavy restrictions being implemented upon us. Convid was the major turning point, and was used as the first trial. Businesses and services are being wiped out wholesale, and our world is being turned into an empty dystopian of nothingness. I can only wonder how life will be for everyone by 2030, and am glad I'll be 79 by then, if I get that far.

It's far better to vote for ANY party (even if it's not a favourite) than no party at all. Rochdale is a prime example of that, as Galloway wouldn't have won if the majority had voted. I'm in the same position as everyone else, but I know I must make a vote in order to REDUCE the chances of the Con/Lab/Lib parties from winning. I had hoped to vote for Reform, but Tice's recent behaviour has made me seriously question that, so I'll probably end up voting for an independent, or just write "I DO NO CONSENT" on my card. Either way, we've all got to reduce the chances of all the major parties, and that's the way to do it.

Like so many others, I also feel very disheartened by the political system here, but unless we actually go and vote (ANY VOTE), the wrong parties are ALWAYS GOING TO WIN. Well, it's not just because they're all getting everything for free (boarding, food, money, mobiles, etc), it's because our government is following a scenario which was planned a long time ago. To do that, they need to cause chaos and unrest. The expected outcome of this is civil war, which will give them the perfect excuse for another lockdown, plus martial law. Convid was just a trial run and, within the next few years, we'll all be under the control of heavy surveillance, digital currency, restricted movement.....and fear.

  446. Apart from having a bank account where my money goes in or out on any given day, I don't know the pros and cons of the regulations involved (because, like many, I never read the small print). However, surely there has to be a very serious reason for any bank to shut any customers' accounts. Along with the 90 days' notice, I would imagine that the bank would have to give very specific clarification in writing as to why it's chosen to do that. I'd love to know why Farage's account was shut down, because I'm scratching my head trying to think of a good reason! Any ideas, anyone???

If you look at how many businesses were shut down during the Convid scenario, including hotels, you get a clear picture of what's in store and why. Pontins, as well as many hotels and other businesses have been paid out by our government for that purpose. While you're at it, have a closer look at Serco.
