  15. It's not good for women's psyche to be unaccompanied in any aspects, especially regarding companionship. I remember when I first entered the U.S. Air Force in 1990 and there was an open house for Generals to visit our base. Being a new Lieutenant, I was "volun-told" along with all the Lieutenants on base to stand ready to escort the wives of these Generals if/when they have to break away from their wives to talk. I was told that as gentlemen, we never leave a lady alone with no one to talk to. So, if the General had to go talk to some other VIP, it was my job to step right in with my bent arm so that his wife could be escorted to her seat. This illustrates that women do not like to be alone and the tradition came from that. Years later, one of my friends was having marital problems and was away from his wife. It was a Friday night and she wanted to take their 3 year old son out to dinner with another couple. We all went out to this nice restaurant and I used what I learned from the Air Force and stepped in to hold a diaper bag for her and basically look like her "husband" so that she didn't feel left out and look stupid in public (meanwhile, my wife visited her mother in another city so I was free to do that). Well, my buddy's wife appreciated that immensely and when they got back together, she kept telling him how my wife and I are "Good people". Women don't like being alone - or give the impression that they are alone. That is why they all claim to have a boyfriend even if they don't.
