Only way to find out: Send them to Ukraine. Let U.S. and Russian fighter jocks have at it. Talk is cheap - put your life where your mouth is.

It has been shown throughout air combat history that the fighter that could turn the sharpest is usually the victor. In this case, the SU-57 would likely beat the F-22 in close combat. In beyond visual range (BVR) fights, the 22 may have the advantage because of superior electronics and stealth. But the fact that the U.S. Air Force is retiring the F-22 after only 16 years in service tells us that the 57 (and Chinese J-20) are formidable threat to the 22.

@shannonswyatt Neither is the F-16 but like the F-16 and F-15, TOGETHER with its big brother SU-57, it will be Checkmate! BTW, a bit of trivia for you: 75 is the reverse of 57. 57 is 22 + 35 (as in F-22 and F-35) Russia had put America on notice. That is why the USAF is retiring the F-22 and scrambling to get the 6th Gen fighter out.

@shannonswyatt Then how come the kill ratio went from 10 to 1 in the Korean War to less than 2 to 1 in the Vietnam War (most likely 1 to 1 but the U.S. lied) The primary U.S. fighter at the time was the F-4 Phantom, which had 2 engines and a big radar compared to the enemy's smaller radar and single engine in the MiG-21. Radar guided missiles could be fooled, even today. All else being equal, the fighter with the tightest turning radius usually wins. BTW, speaking of the A-10, when I was a U.S. Air Force cadet, I visited the First Fighter Wing at Langley Air Force Base where they flew F-15. They told us that they often flew against A-10s for mock combat to which we cadets laughed because we thought that the 15 will easily defeat the A-10. Not so, said the F-15 pilots.....because the A-10 could turn so tight. Yep, I got that DIRECTLY from F-15 pilots themselves - tighter turn Fighters usually wins a dog fight.

@shannonswyatt Yeah, but the SU-57 ain't no A-10 - it is also stealthy and very fast. The F-22 won't be able to get a shot off BVR before the 57 is right up its rear. Again, proof of my argument is the fact that the U.S. Air Force had decided to retire the F-22 only after 16 years in service....and announce that they are coming out with the 6th Gen fighter. Why do you think?

@shannonswyatt "isn't worth the cost" So, the 6th Gen fighter will cost less than the 22? You're not making any sense, man! You may not be privy to the reasons but you can use your brain to connect the dots. The 22 does NOT have a clear advantage over the SU-57....or even China's J-20 for that matter. That is why the 22 is being retired early. As Russia designated their new SU-75 - Checkmate!

@shannonswyatt BTW, the cobra maneuver was to demonstrate how maneuverable the SU-57 is WITHOUT experiencing a compressor stall in its engines (not for combat). No U.S. fighter could do that without inducing a compressor stall, which would tear its engines apart.
