  4. Living in a haunted house may not be that bad...in fact, it was great for my brother. True story: About 15 years ago, my brother bought a house in Manassas, Virginia. He didn't know it was haunted. He hired our brother-in-law to paint the living room while he was at work. While Jimmy (not his real name) was high on the ladder painting, he felt someone rocking his ladder. At first, Jimmy thought it was his imagination but it became persistent and more forceful. He said he felt the presence of someone behind his shoulder but when he turned his head, no one was there. When our parents came to visit, our father would take a nap in the afternoon in one of the bedrooms. When he woke up, he looked out at the hallway and saw an Asian woman in her early 30's standing there. He thought someone came to visit so he asked my mother who that pretty young woman was and she said, there's no one there. She told him, "Oh, you, and pretty young women!" 😁 At night when she got up to go to the bathroom, she would feel someone dashed by her as she opened the bathroom door. Scared that the ghost would harm my brother, my mother set up an altar and prayed to the ghost that my brother didn't mean to take her house and that if she helps him sell the house, he would move. The very next day, a buyer offered him a great deal and he sold the house for a handsome profit. That house netted him enough money to tip his finances over to millionaire status. The ghost really helped him! Later, we came across a newspaper article about a couple who owned that house. They own a Korean grocery store that didn't do too well, so they always argued. One night, while they argued, he lost his temper and slapped hard across her face at the two-level foyer, and she fell over the railing on her head and died. Her head hit the chandelier before she hit the floor below, and the lamp fixture was never fixed. I saw it when I visited and thought it was broken by some kid playing ball in the house. My brother never saw the ghost. I guess she liked him because at that time, he was single and would often run naked around the backyard when it rained at night (he said he felt free doing that!) I guess the ghost liked what she saw! 😁🤣😂😅 True story. Happy Halloween!

Houses are primarily for living in FIRST, not for short-term investments by those who don't even live in those houses.

  16. Sustainable home prices must jive with the local salary. So, unless there is another force that keeps inflating it (such as foreign buyers, corporate buyers, extreme low mortgage interests, etc), prices will ALWAYS fall back to local salary levels.

  17. I own a Tesla Model X since 2016 and I'm never going back to gas cars. Unlike in Sweden where there aren't enough supercharging stations, I live in Southern California where there are literally a Tesla Supercharging Station with at least 10 stalls every 5 miles. I have free supercharging (early adopter privilege) so I saved $50,000 on gas since I got my Tesla 8 years ago - that's enough to buy a Mercedes! No pay for gas, no oil change, no radiator flush, no smog check - no nothing! So, I don't know what he's talking about. And I am about to drop that $50k on a 2023 Mercedes EQS EV that cost twice that amount just a year ago when it was brand new. So, keep badmouthing EVs so I can buy more at at 50% off!

In the last decade or so, that force were foreign buyers, corporate buyers, and artificially low mortgage interest rates, and remote work. Those forces are waning so it's just a matter of time before DFW housing market comes tumbling down too.

  22. I suspect that home equity line is what made so many people not work in the last couple years. Many long time residents of California bought their home decades ago (or their parents handed the home down to them) when it was $200k to $300k. In the last 2 years, their home went up to $1 million or more. So, they just use it as an ATM machine. One guy I know took advantage of a new law in California that allows people to convert their garage into rental units. He converted his elderly father's garage into 2 units and charge $2,500 each. That is $5,000 in income each month for not working. Some people are so lucky!

  25. You can thank the U.S. for blowing up the Nordstream Pipeline that supplied cheap Russian gas to run the EU economy. Without the cheap gas, the EU must buy expensive American gas shipped from the U.S. To keep prices competitive, businesses must lay off workers to compensate for the increased cost in energy. That is why you suffer.

  29. By definition, a government's job is to govern, i.e. referee the game to make sure its fair. It is NOT fair for someone earning $180,000 a year or more somewhere else to compete with locals that only make $55k a year. Solution: tax NON-local renters / buyers then use that tax revenue to offset the cost for those who earn local salary. That way, landlords STILL make more money YET locals could STILL afford a home. No need to use Socialist solutions such as rent control, government housing, etc. Problem solved!

  30. You think that's bad? Get this: Did you know that if a squatter stays in your house for a long time, say, 15 to 20 years or longer, he could LEGALLY take your house! This happened to many people back in the late 1970's when they bought land in Florida to build a house on when they retire years later. When that day came, they went to look at their land only to find out someone had built a house on it (or put a shack on it) and claimed its their property. And since they were there for so long, all the neighbors around them acknoledge that they have lived there that long. So the law sided with the squatter and the real owner had paid for the land all that time for nothing. Property laws in this country must change. If you have the legal paperwork that proves you own the property, then it should not matter how long someone else occupy that land.

More than 30 countries have joined BRICS that represent over 42% of the global economy. Among those countries who are de-dollarizing are oil-rich countries like Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Their oil is what gave the Greenback value since the 1970's. Not anymore!

  34. @keyisersoze Disagree. The US became a dominant global economy after WWII (1945) when Bretton Woods made the Dollar the global reserve currency. That made the U.S. economy go up, not down. It was only when they moved all manufacturing overseas beginning in 1990 that the economy started to unravel.

  35. Remote work is what cause even more homelessness (the other causes being foreign buyers, flipping homes, and corporate buyers). How so? Let's say you are a high-tech worker from Silicon Valley who gets paid $150,000 per year. Your company allows you to remote work so you move to a small town where the median salary is only $55k. You buy a house there so the price of homes increase in price beyond affordability for the average Joe there. Soon more high-tech workers move in, which Jacks up all home prices, including low priced homes. Those in the low income could no longer afford to buy or rent. Some will end up homeless.

  39. There will be a lot of layoffs of hourly wage workers in California starting this Spring when the minimum wage increases to $20 per hour. Small to medium size businesses will simply lay off some workers in order to afford to pay the higher wages of workers that remain.

  40. Depends on where you live. When I moved to Southern California in 2010, housing costs me $2,200 per month. I made a little more than 3X that so it fits my income. Today, the same house costs me more than $4,000 per month. My salary didn't double to cover that. Move, you say? Same story in all major cities where my line of work is....and the salary there is proportionally less.   41. Neurotraveller, Not even Chinese citizens can own land in China (they can still own the property on top of that land, though. We have a similar thing in America and it is called "leasehold land". You can often find that in Hawaii). But look what happened to us Americans when foreigners are allowed to buy the land along with the property - it jacked up prices beyond local salary, which forces many Americans out in the streets. The best solution, though, is NOT to ban foreign buyers but to tax them. Then use that tax revenue to help offset the high price for local buyers. But if we ban foreign buyers altogether, our builders won't be able to sell hence they can't hire construction workers. Not only construction workers will be out of work but furniture stores, appliance stores, electricians, etc. No jobs - bad economy!

  42. Now that Trump is elected President, I think people will continue to spend due to their hope that the economy will get better. I have no doubt Trump will fix the economy but that takes time. Meanwhile, people must face a big credit card bill after the Holiday Season is over.

  44. The government should NOT levy additional property tax on the rich but on ANYONE whose income does not come from the local area where they buy their house. Especially corporate, foreign, or investor buyers. In other words, whoever cause housing prices to artificially skyrocket beyond local salary should be the one who must pay higher. Hey, they broke it, they must fix it. And there is no need to build affordable housing - just normal houses will be sufficient if it's cost is offset by those who broke the price.
