Europeans will love to hear that their taxes are going to go through the roof, no doubt.
20
If Denmark does not cede Greenland to the US, American influence and assistance in Europe WILL end. Enough is enough. This crap has been going on for 75 years, and it is time for either a new agreement or a parting of ways.
14
A-U-S-T-E-R-I-T-Y. It is what happens when you no longer have someone else paying your bills or acting as your human shield.
10
The US is not willing to continue the relationship with the EU and NATO given the bad experiences of the past. If the EU wants things to continue, they have to give up something tangible because the US has been carrying the water for the last 75 years, but now sees that future generations of Americans should not be burdened with that responsibility. America has been sending soldiers all that time to defend Europe from the bear, and yet nothing has changed. It is time to stop this for good, or come to an agreement where the Americans feel that Europe is worth the cost.
9
1. The EU will be paying the bills. Someone HAS to pay. Someone HAS to perform the service. Where will the money come from? 2. No matter what happens to the US in the years to come, a US out of NATO and decoupled from the middle east militarily as well as decoupled economically from China, would be a major hazard for Europe.
7
@magivkmeister6166 Yes, the Inuit. Who are of North America, not Europe. Technically speaking, the Danes should have ceded control of Greenland to either Canada or the USA or granted it independence a long time ago.
6
Greenland is part of the North American continent, not Europe.
5
@vincentford9254 1. You have no unity. 2. You cannot agree on anything. 3. You have one nation, Germany, as your primary economic powerhouse. Everyone else is minute in comparison. 4. You have social programs for your citizens that preclude the expense of a massive military. You made your choice decades ago on this, and the Americans have been your acting defense. Explain to your citizens that they are going to have to say goodbye to the nanny state and they will go nuts. This spending will kill your economies and also send your youth running for the doors, especially if you attempt conscription.
5
Those cushy social nets and expensive toys like high speed trains? Yeah, they cost big Euros. The citizens of the EU are going go nuts if they find they have to pay even more to sustain all that with a funny car military. This does not include the effects of conscription, which they will HAVE to do, but will scare a good number of youth away.
4
@captainvanisher988 Well, it can and will get worse. This gravy train has to stop at the station at some point.
3
DeSantis is young, Vivak is young, Haley is young, and the midwest US is loaded with political dark horses who are young that are waiting for the chance.
2
@thelastpagan4999 C’mon, just be honest and call it the 4th Reich.
2
@geda8496 People are still moving state to state in the USA without any trouble. And no one here has ties to just any one state, so the whole “divided USA” argument is moot.
2
@geda8496 1. Only within the Schengen area is there near American style travel. 2. If you can find an elected politician in the US who has actually made the motion of promoting secession, please identify them. You have Catalonia trying to break away in Spain, the Basques demanding self autonomy and let's not even attempt to broach the clusterf*ck that is Scotland and Northern Ireland. 3. "We Europeans"? More like you will do whatever the head of state at the time in Germany tells you what to do. The EU is not about equality of nations, it is a cover name for the fourth reich.
2
@georgesdelatour OK, I understand better now. Thank you.
2
Eurovision explains it all.
2
It wasn’t holy, wasn’t Roman, and was not an empire. It was just some cross dressing Bavarians playing make believe.
2
Since there were a few gay Roman emperors, it is only proper that there be a new Caligula type EU leader. Soon you will be able to marry a horse.
2
@alvaroibanez7497 Ok, I apologize then. It’s just that when people talk about the Roman Empire usually it has to do with immorality and perversion instead of mundane subjects like taxation and expense. Though, I bet their orgies must have been a huge drain on GDP.
2
A correct observation. But being unified by language is a highly desirable trait, and very few united republics or confederations have that.
2
1000% correct.
2
@OFFICIALDJFLASHBACK Blame Churchill. He was anti-communist but started a war not with communists, but other anti-communists.
2
Show me a moment in history where the European powers respected the territorial integrity of Asia, Africa and the Americas. They colonized Africa against the will of the indigenous population and tormented them, they colonized the Middle East and completely screwed the place up with their artificially drawn borders, they tried to scam the Chinese and make drug addicts of them, they even invaded Mexico right at the convenient moment when their neighbor was immersed in internal conflict. Europe and integrity are words that do not belong in the same sentence.
1
Because you can’t even have a Eurovision contest without some nation acting gay or weird. And every damn one of your nations has got some bone to pick with everyone else. Besides, you are undergoing population decline and shift right now and are going to have Muslim majorities in 25 years, so military action in the future is out of the question.
1
@geda8496 Californians and Alaskans and Texans and even New Yorkers have a common language and cultural background. They might argue, but can find common ground. A German and a Pole and a French are not going to be as successful in this respect.
1
@darkyada71 We shall see. If it should come to pass that a Muslim becomes president of France in the future, then I will have been proven correct.
1
@AdderallFiend It's very simple there. Either secure the border, or move the border. The relationship between the US and Mexico has been rotting away for decades, and both sides are to blame.
1
@znail4675 Tommy don't like Jerry running the show.
1
When you say centripetal, do you mean divisive or cohesive?
1
@tezz2698 And what has Denmark done behind the scenes to "show" Greenland it would be a bad idea? C'mon, you know the Danes did it.
1
@masonridgewell8063 What territory? The US has leases on bases in some nations, but the actual territories and trusteeships left in the world are few. What you are asking is akin to screaming at France to give up Clipperton. Sure they could, but who are they going to give it to? China?(Instant war) Nature preserve?(A good idea)
1
@psychoedge OK, so how about a trade then? You take Puerto Rico, we take Greenland. We will even throw in the Virgin Islands too.
1
Europe's fate was decided a long time ago, back in the 1800s. The year that the population of the US grew larger than of western Europe, their relevance was doomed. After two suicidal wars and international backstabbing, the continent is a joke that survives on the willingness of other nations to carry their water because of feelings. When those nations finally wake up and say goodbye, Europe is screwed.
1
@amanwearingsuspenders7390 And there they go. Europeans are forever so quick to try to point out that they somehow have something to do with Americans while Americans think Europe is distant whisper from their past.
1
@amanwearingsuspenders7390 NATO no longer serves a purpose. The EU no longer needs an American presence. Let the two entities separate in peace. Why is that so hard for you to take? Europeans don’t even like Americans, they haven’t since the very beginning. Just let the sham be ended peacefully.
1
@don_chanLIVE Atta boy, be as hardheaded as you can be.
1
@captainvanisher988 Do any of our neighbors to the south spend, or have a reason to spend, the amount that we do on military budgets? No, they don’t. And cutting public programs will only last so long until a tax revolt occurs and the whole system fails.
1
@hunterghost1494 Uh huh, sure. Are you also going to say that Helmut Kohl caused the collapse of the USSR?
1
@abraham2172 I doubt it. Trump seems to be serious about this, and if you examine it from a strategic point of view it all makes sense. Control of the American-Canadian side of the Arctic is no joke, and removal of Chinese influence over the Panama canal is important. The fact that the Europeans are crying on the news is likely just a ruse to save face; behind the scenes something very different is taking place.
1
@Osskibosskiposki Bosnia/Herzegovina, for one.
1
@Osskibosskiposki All of them, since it is an alliance. Although, the Netherlands could be disputed...
1
The USA would just say’ “ok” and start paying it down while going into an austerity spending profile. American spending goes down, trade gets ripped a new one and whoever the clown nation was who screamed that the USA should pay the debt becomes popular in a bad way with the whole world.
1
Imagine if the border between the US and Mexico was removed..."you wanted to be an American? Guess what? You ARE now!"
1
OK then, so raise your taxes to pay for an army. Or trade off the social spending. Don't try to force service on your young. You did that in the 1800s, and your country hemorrhaged the youth to the USA.
1
@mnxs Xi is dumb enough to try it. The problem is, if he wins he still loses because of the sanctions you mentioned, but if his invasion is repelled, the costs are even worse because then the CCP will suffer a schism from within in the aftermath.
1
Even if the dollar wasn’t the reserve, it would not matter. When the US plays hardball with international trade, all economies get screwed. “The global economy is always one hillbilly or redneck away from disaster.”
1
@snuffeldjuret The moment Putin takes the Ukraine after the US stops further aid and has tanks on the border with Poland, phone calls will be made.
1
@wtfdidijustwatch1017 LOL. Europe is like a cheating gf who gets even with her bf by going out to try to sleep with who ever makes her the most promises but keeps getting abused and thrown out of their apartments, then comes home to her original and tries to act like it's all ok.
1
@DrD0000M We are not entitled to it, but it neither is Denmark. Greenlanders should have the final say without European interference.
