  1.  @samurguy9906  The electoral college system does not favor city-states. If you do that, autonomy has to be given to city-states or they will go nuts.

  2. They know what will happen if Greater Idaho and the Illinois separation is allowed. It will set off a wave of referendums across the country, but also it will kill the Democrats in the electoral college. Imagine if Illinois went from 19 electoral college votes to just 10. Or Oregon going from 8 to 5, while Idaho goes from 4 to 7 and Indiana goes from 11 to 20. It would be a disaster for the Democrats.
